Windows 8.1 Tips

Hot Key to Display Apps View (Apps Drawer)    12Feb14

  • Go to the Start Screen if you are not there yet by pressing
  • Hold the CTRL key and tap TAB... The Apps View will be displayed
  • Holding the CTRL key and tapping TAB again toggles back to Start Screen

Open Taskbar Program with HotKey
  • Press + # (1 to 10) keys from anywhere in Windows 8, where # is the position of the icon in the Taskbar.
 Rename Tile :
  • Right click on tile,
  • Select Open File Location
  • Rename highlighted shortcut.
Create Apps Drawer Folder Shortcut (to add items to the Apps Drawer-Apps View)
  • Right click on empty area of desktop and select New:Shortcut
  • Paste C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs into Location, and Next
  • Type Apps Drawer into Name, and Finish
Add Web Shortcuts to Start Screen
  • Open Web Browser to page desired
  • Drag icon immediately to the left ot the web address (in the address bar) to the desktop
  • Rename this icon as desired
  • Drag icon into Apps Drawer created above (Permission will be requested and may be given)
  • Go to Start Screen:Apps View, find  the web icon, right click and Pin to Start
Capture a Screenshot as Image File
  • + PRTSC
  • Image is stored in Pictures:Screenshots ( + E : Pictures : Screenshots)

 Change View with hotkeys
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 1 Extra Large
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 2 Large Icons
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 3 Medium Icons
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 4 Small Icons
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 5 List
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 6 Details
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 7 Tiles
  • CTRL + SHIFT + 8 Content
